Ethiopian Aricha Grade 1 Coffee (recurring order)
Buna (the word for coffee in the Amharic language [Ethiopian dialect]) was discovered in Ethiopia hundreds of years ago. Coffee plants / trees were then transported to other parts of the world which marked the beginning of global coffee development. It remains a sacred commodity in Ethiopia and coffee roasting is performed daily in homes, essentially, almost every Ethiopian civilian is a coffee roaster or has had exposure to coffee roasting.
Aricha is the name of the washing station where this particular coffee is processed. Idido is the village, or kebele, where this coffee is grown and processed, in a microregion of Yirgacheffe. Aricha is about 8 kilometers from the center of Yirgacheffe Town. The coffee is picked ripe between November and January, depulped within 12 hours, and washed clean with spring water. The soils in this region are red-brown clay soil, about 1.5 meters deep. We have a special relationship with the producers of this Yirgacheffe, which is an exclusive in the UK and not widely available.
This Aricha coffee is harvested at nearly 2200 metres above sea level in the Gediyo zone of the Yirgacheffe district.
